Slimming Down With Yoga
Healthy Spirit, Healthy Body

The one thing that sets Yoga apart from all other forms of activity is its ability to change what goes on inside of you. A small minority of people become overweight because of a medical problem like hypothyroidism (and incidentally, certain Yoga poses such as Shoulderstand may be a good supplement to your physician's care for an underactive thyroid). The issue for the majority of people, however, is more likely to be mental and emotional. This is where Yoga can really help. Yoga calms the mind and makes it easier to see life objectively. After practicing for a while, problems that were once extremely stressful no longer seem so bad. You're able to look more deeply within and understand yourself and your motivations - including your relationship with your body, and with food. You start to feel more comfortable in your own skin. And once you have nurtured yourself through Yoga, you're more likely to change the way you treat yourself. Bad habits, like smoking cigarettes and eating fast food are no longer as appealing as they once were. You're simply drawn to eating better and taking care of yourself. Without even trying, you'll be attracted to a healthier lifestyle. Practice Yoga often enough and you may just acquire something even better than a thin body - you'll have a healthy body. One that will give you a lifetime of activity, energy and happiness.
