Jennifer Kries Pilates Method: Perfect Mix What is it?
Three workouts, each approximately 20 minutes in length, that are based on Pilates, Yoga and dance. Jennifer Kries instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers who should have some experience with Pilates. You will need a mat and a pair of light weights (1 to 3 pounds).
What to expect:
When you see Jennifer Kries' name, you know what to expect: some Pilates, perhaps a bit of Yoga, and dance. If you enjoy this blend of exercise forms, then Perfect Mix will be perfect for you. It's one of Kries' most cohesive DVDs. There are 3 workouts in this program, and you can mix and match them. The first segment focuses on the core with a series of classic Pilates moves such as the Hundred, Corkscrew and Rolling Like a Ball, balanced out with a few Yoga stretches. The second segment is called "Metabolic Booster" and involves a series of dance-like moves combined with light dumbbells. The final segment, "AM/PM Rejuvenation," is a light but energizing stretching and breathing session. The most effective of these segments is the Pilates-based core session — you will actually feel a burn. The "Metabolic Booster" is fun for those who enjoy dancing and choreography; it may be a challenge for those who aren't good with remembering sequences of moves. While you may sweat a bit during this segment, it's not strictly cardio, but more focused on toning, conditioning and coordination. The final segment is nice and refreshing — it begins with "Breath of Fire" (a Yoga breathing exercise), so it helps build energy while the stretching relaxes you. Keep in mind that while you aren't pumping up your heart and you aren't lifting heavy weights, these segments do not necessarily make for an easy workout overall. Your flexibility and endurance will be challenged. Perfect Mix works best for intermediate exercisers who want a gentler routine in between more strenuous days.
