shape your abs What is it?
While the abs are the focus of this DVD, it's primarily a mix-and-match workout that really helps burn fat and tones the whole body. Included are a 35-minute circuit workout, four 5-minute ab routines and a bonus 12-minute total body toning session. Tracy York instructs. (Note: This workout was originally released in 2004 and repackaged in 2005.)
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate level exercisers. You will need 2 to 5 pound weights (the more experienced among you may want 8-pounders for a few moves), and a mat.
What to expect:
It's a surprise that there aren't more circuit training exercise DVDs around. When it comes to getting the most workout in the shortest amount of time, circuit training is immensely effective. Shape Your Abs combines four circuits of 5-minute cardio routines and 2 minutes of weight exercises to wring the most it can from a 35-minute workout. In spite of its title, this is more than an abs workout — you get full-body toning and calorie burning... which in reality is very ab-enhancing since the less fat you have, the more your defined midsection will be revealed. To go with the circuit training, there are four targeted, 5-minute ab workouts. The ab exercises are all floor routines, but they run the gamut, with segments that include traditional crunch-based moves, core work, Pilates and dynamic movement. They're all fairly tough, but if you want even more of a challenge you can always combine two of them (when choosing, keep in mind that the classic crunches and core segments are done with shoes on and the Pilates and dynamic sessions are done barefoot). There is also a highly efficient, 12-minute "bonus" routine that tones your body in record time. Tracy York leads you through all the workouts in an upbeat, professional manner. She's straightforward and real and offers excellent cueing. If you're looking for an all-around, intermediate-level exercise DVD that works, give this one a try. The fact that it shapes your abs so well makes it all that much better.
